Brian K. Hill: Bush & McCain Basher & Deflector

I almost hate to give someone like alleged-U.S. Senate Candidate Brian K. Hill airtime on The King's View.  But considering that he's working as another one of Linda McMahon's surrogates (notice that he rarely speaks ill of her), it's worth having readers take the time to watch an example of Hill's repeated disgraceful mis-characterization of President George W. Bush and Arizona Senator John McCain.  This starts at the 1:00 minute mark when an audience member asks him about his vote for Barack Obama in 2008, and questions him about his misstatement about being a "life-long" Republican even though he abandoned the GOP in 2007.

This video is credited to PalinSmith
Taken at Woodbury CT on March 3, 2012

"I've been a live long Republican except for the last couple years of the W Bush administration.  I switched to being Independent.... it should be on my website but it's not there.  So, I've been a Republican in name, and a Republican in faith for many years. Now, I didn't vote for Obama, I voted against McCain."

After putting his audience on the spot by asking for a show of hands as to who's been in the military (and who hasn't) - as if that somehow strengthens his argument for GOP-betrayal, Hill goes into a long-winded discussion about Army hospitals and post-traumatic stress syndrome.  Feeling the need to really sell his argument, he says, "... I've also had the unfortunate experience of watching friends commit suicide because they don't want to be in Iraq and Afghanistan. So any candidate who said he was going to expand our operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.. seeing up close and personal ... seeing the toll it was taking on our military personnel, I was not going to vote for.  And I stand by that."

Hill then ends his diatribe by ripping our military and its poor standards despite the fact that many of its leaders, airman, soldiers, and marines have been serving our Country for many years: "We've got a lot of gang members in the military right now.  We've got a lot of people who are not physically, mentally or physically qualified to be there right now."  Well, thank you Dr. Hill for your unqualified diagnosis.

It's interesting to note that during the last U.S. Senate campaign cycle, Richard Blumenthal took a lot of heat for exaggerating his overseas service in Vietnam, and here we have a volunteer veteran who is full of criticism of our military, and two distinguished veterans, one being a Commander in Chief, and the other, a 5-year POW who sacrificed far more than Mr. Hill will ever know.  At least Mr. Blumenthal didn't stoop as low as bashing our military's standards or our Commander in Chief as his rationale for supporting Barack Obama.

As far as politics is concerned, Republicans should be dismayed that in comparison to the promised socialism of Barack Obama and his left-wing ideologues, that Mr. Hill could find no redeeming quality in our sitting Republican President, or in U.S. Senator and then-Presidential Candidate John McCain.  At this point, I'm not sure if Brian K. Hill has more so dishonored his position within the Republican Party (which he abandoned) or the uniform that he wore overseas.

I think Brian K. Hill will be hard pressed to find many RTC Chairman, RTC Members or Delegates who are willing to be publicly identified with him, and deliver their vote on his behalf at the upcoming Connecticut Republican State Convention.  Although perhaps he might find sympathy with a handful of peace-loving Ron Paulies who might have concealed their true allegiances through fraudulent representation to earn credentials to the Convention.  While the CTGOP has it problems, I'm proud to say there aren't too many Bush or McCain-bashers within our ranks.  So the small band of delegates that he plans to deliver to Linda at vote-switching time won't have been worth the payment.

The audience participant in video asks Mr. Hill why his vote for Barack Obama shouldn't automatically disqualify him for consideration as our U.S. Senator, well - the truth is... it already has.  If President George Bush and John McCain weren't good enough for you, then you're not good enough for Connecticut.

The simple fact is... it's all down-Hill from here.

Did Somebody Order a Pizza?

Most of the time, The King is a big defender of our boys in Grey.  Our Connecticut State Police Officers set the standard as the best State Police force in the Union - they work hard, they work long hours, and are always there when you need them.  Their professionalism on the job is first rate.  And I happen to be fortunate enough to know several of them on a personal level, and can tell you that they are just like you and I - but the burden of responsibility isn't something they stow away when they come home from a hellish day.  These guys and gals are on 24/7, and the stress is unbelievable.

As with any job, when thing go awry - it's usually caused by a foolish management decision which makes a public mess of things, and leaves the rank and file to take the heat for something that they had no involvement in.

If you haven't seen it yet, take a look at this memo issued Lt. Anthony Schirillo of the Bethany State Police Barracks:

WTNH TV Channel 8 is credited with releasing this story and the memo above

Now, I'm all for the police - state or otherwise - issuing tickets when warranted - reckless driving, speeding, cell phone use, and the rest.  I have no problem there - if you're breaking the law then by all means you should get pinched.

But this memo takes the matter to a whole new level.  For the most part, state police patrolman serve in a public safety capacity - this includes helping disabled motorists, to making sure highways are quickly cleared of accidents and so forth.  They are not out trying to "get people" in order to receive personal citations of merit.  The memo above is reckless because it demands that State Police Officers change direction, and go out of their way to become antagonistic toward the public.

The King was pleased to see State Police Union boss, Andrew Matthews, tell the press "Troopers are expected to do their job...We will do our job, but we don't need to be told we need a certain number of tickets within a specified period of time."

Amen to that! Ticket blitzing is simply unnecessary.  And I'm sure Connecticut families which are already suffering in this Obama-Malloy economy aren't happy to see the suggestion that sticking them with a $275 ticket for a moving violation will result in a round of pizzas for the boys in Bethany from Lt. Tony Schirillo.

AWOL from this story is a comment from Governor Dannel Malloy.  The Governor is the head of Connecticut's Public Safety - we know he runs to the State Armory to wear a yellow helmut and play the role of Superhero at the first sign of high wind or snow.  So what of it Gov?  Can you confirm that the directive to step up ticketing Connecticut residents didn't come from your office?

The King is suspect at the origin of where this strategy truly originates from.  Democrats need income to support their expensive schemes from somewhere - and squeezing c-notes from morning commuters, or soccer moms heading to the game, is a perfect tactic to advance their agenda.

A word of two of outrage from our Republican leaders is certainly warranted.  Someone needs to look out for the people suffering in this State.  We need folks like Larry Cafero to stand with Andrew Mathews and the State Police to condemn this travesty.

Linda McMahon Finally Caves; Resolutions Win!

Don't cry Corry
It will be al-right. Awww
By now, most of you have seen the press release issued by McMahon Campaign Manager Corry Bliss (not Linda McMahon, of course) which can be characterized as nothing short of a statement of surrender on the issue of Convention Transparency that this blog has been writing about for some time now.  Not that we're gloating, it's just nice to see the McMahon camp finally come around to our way of thinking, albeit under extreme duress.  Keep in mind, they didn't do this out of collaborational spirit or caring about the Connecticut Republican Party, as they claim; they did it because the pressure from CTGOP Party officials, and donors (fueled by detailed media reports) finally caused them to crack!

Without a doubt - it took a non-stop pounding by this blog, followed by three major Connecticut Newspapers to embarrass the McMahon campaign into doing the right thing.  Even the national press was gearing up to do a major story on the whole McMahon Pay-to-Play Scandal. Now, exactly how transparent the McMahon campaign will really be when the Convention rolls around is still big question- so we'll have wait and see.  There is still plenty of time and latitude for them to play games with the Convention voting process.

As for those who worked so hard to make this happen including State Central Members Mark Pappa, Scott Veley, Mike Vitalli, and his Sub-Committee, and Republican Activist Joe Visconti - you folks may have lost the March vote 42-10, but you should feel vindicated - for the reality is that common-sense prevailed in large part due to the foundation you laid back in December.  Your initiative led the McMahon campaign to be forced to follow the campaigns of Chris Shays, Brian K. Hill, Kie Westby, and Mr. Dumaj all of which have already committed to providing delegates with a list of paid delegates, staffers, and vendors, as you recommended. Of course, whether the McMahon-ies will wear badges like their counterparts remains to be seen.

And a very important note -- although I've given him a rough time publicly, we must give Chairman Jerry Labriola, Jr. a large amount of credit for the disclosure practices coming to fruition.  First, Chairman Labriola had the courage to allow the Resolutions to be discussed openly at Republican State Central, and vetted by the Subcommittee. Without him doing so, transparency would have never seen the light of day.  Second, he didn't drop the ball - as some predicted he would - instead The King has it on good authority that after the CTGOP took a humiliating week-long beating in the Press over the corruption/delegate buying scandal - Jerry Labriola, Jr. spoke with the McMahon campaign and urged them to get on-board with committing to some form of transparency - OR ELSE they'd be the ones left standing alone!

If there is anyone disingenuous in all of this - it's clearly the McMahon camp.  As everyone knows, the McMahon campaign brought all of this pain on the CTGOP to begin with.  Disregarding Corry Bliss' revisionist history for a moment, let's remind you that:

1.  The McMahon Campaign acted like conspiring crooks at the 2010 State Convention which put the entire CTGOP in a bad light, infuriated the GOP rank and file, which eventually led to Republicans getting blown-out in the 2010 election (including damaging Tom Foley's Gubernatorial campaign - a fact he still can't seem to accept); and

2.  The McMahon camp continued this arrogant strategy into this election cycle; McMahon started the whole process of buying delegates and RTCs last year (and yes, donating to RTCs is buying and influencing).  For the McMahon campaign to show phony outrage because the other Senate Candidates saw fit to call her out on her corrupt, unethical campaign activities is about as disingenuous as it gets; and

3.  Fact is - Jerry Labriola put pressure on McMahon's Campaign to rectify the situation for the good of the Party (it's bad enough we are suffering from the merger of the WWE Brand and the Republican Brand).  Things have been so bad that the telephones have been ringing off the hook since the results of the vote taken at the March State Central meeting came to light in The King's View weeks ago.  And the phones are still ringing to the point where people need to shut them off at night. Just ask, Jerry!

Like everything else, this disaster is one that Linda McMahon owns, personally. It's a campaign rule that the candidate is never to blame.  In this case, she has such tight control on her staff that nothing happens without her personal approval.  A practice that extends from her wrestling business.  Linda McMahon is a great actor; that North Carolina "little old me?" deer in the headlights look is beyond pathetic.

While I'm not going to post the entire propaganda letter distributed by Corry Bliss (and laughed at by even some in the media... hehehe), I'm going to focus on a few sentences which are outrageous.  The whole thing is designed to pass the blame on Christopher Shays - if you can believe it. And if you want to see the whole letter, you can go to Linda McMahon's Propaganda website to read it - it's a laugh a minute because you can clearly see the angry tone in every sentence.  And the bitterness of hours lost on a battle temporarily won, and then surrendered a week later.

Bliss' lines in italics:

Since Linda McMahon first announced she was running for the United States Senate... she is running an issue based campaign..."

Right. Unless you discount the negative smear campaign letter she had State Senator Joe Markley sign his name to which ripped Chris Shays up and down and included all kinds of accusations from accusing him of residing out of state, to mis-characterizing his voting record.  Make no mistake, Linda fired the opening shots with that nasty letter (and Mr. Shays hadn't even formally announced yet); she only stopped after receiving a backlash, which left Markley wounded, and  to twist in the wind.  And let's not forget about Linda's little blogroll which is engaging in disgusting personal attacks against Shays' supporters; clearly, a poor reflection on both Linda McMahon and Lisa Wilson-Foley - who's surrogates are wholly invested in ongoing character assasinations.  Not much of a positive campaign there.  Even Linda's own supporters have voiced outrage at McMahon's personal smear tactics.

In stark contrast, and perhaps due to being so far behind in the polls, Congressman Chris Shays is running...

Wait.  Did Bliss actually write that Chris Shays is behind in the polls?  What color is the sky in your world, Corry?  Did you not see the Quinnipiac Poll showing Linda McMahon down  15 points to Chris Murphy?  Or the one showing Chris Shays even with Chris Murphy?  How about the one that showed Linda losing to Susan Bysiewicz by 10 points.  Maybe you had your screen upside down or something.  The arrogance of the McMahon camp is unbelievable!  If you don't like a poll, ignore it or better yet - create your own that shows the complete opposite result favoring Linda

Congressman Shays continues to disrespect the Republican Party, its leaders, and Republican Town Committees...

How?  By Congressman Shays not writing them $500-$2000 check to influence their votes?  By not letting the McMahon camp steam-roll him with vote buying and influencing delegates?  The nerve of him -  that damn revolutionary Shays!  Can't he just lay down for Lucky Linda?  And for the record - does Linda's foul WWE programming symbolize mutual respect that everyone is looking for?

As we have previously stated, our campaign wants the most open, transparent nominating process possible.

Hahahahaha. That's why you devoted hundreds of hours burning up the phone lines screaming a CTGOP Brass, and others about the Transparency Resolutions, and lobbying State Central members to vote against them.  Let's not forget the campaign to apply pressure on RTCs and others to support Linda McMahon.

Forty-eight hours before the convention, our campaign will post a full list of delegates who serve as staff or vendors and their relationship to the campaign....

How noble of you.  Will they wear identifications badges like the other campaigns?  And does that mean you can continue to purchase delegates right up until the starting whistle?  Linda McMahon seems to have lost the plot -- how about taking the extra step of NOT PERMITTING paid staff and vendors to be delegates?  Or is that a problem because the checks have already been cashed, and you want to see a return on your investment regardless of how shady it looks.

P.S. Yesterday we released a polling memo with the results of our recent primary survey. In case you missed it, Linda has a commanding 20-point lead over Congressman Shays.

Ok, so you created your own poll and manipulated the results so your own lukewarm supporters don't jump ship.  Sure, because everyone believes a candidate's internal poll is more accurate than a neutral poll like the one conducted by Quinnipiac University.  I'm sure Congressman Shays and his team are praying that Linda's team clings to the notion that they are winning because it makes Linda McMahon look even more ridiculous than she already does.  I bet if the Quinnipiac Poll were taken today, she's be 25 points down to Chris Murphy, and probably down 15 to Susan Bysiewicz.  Hey, you guys just keep doing what you're doing... its working perfectly for the rest of the field.

Can you imagine the state of chaos at McMahon Headquarters?  I bet the flying-monkeys that work in her office are telling her that she's winning by a landslide just to keep themselves employed.  God knows that Linda doesn't keep you around if you start spouting negative news.  Just ask some of her former staff members who are all-to-willing to talk, signed disclosure letters or not.

Yep. This State Convention is really going to be something.  I'm looking forward to the debates.

Linda McMahon's Violence Against Woman Product

Most people who live in Connecticut probably don't watch wrestling.  That's because reasonable people don't want to come home from a long day of work to listen to people yell, cuss, and beat each other up.  Most people want to relax with the least amount of stress possible.

As a Connecticut voter, it's important that you take a good look at this outstanding documentary about Linda McMahon's Company.  This is the background and experience which Linda McMahon is touting to impress the people of Connecticut that she is a proven job creator.  After watching this, ask yourself - is this the kind of person who Republicans want representing them in November?  Is this the kind of person whom Connecticut voters want representing them in Washington?  Seriously?

Credit: Jackson Katz and The Huffington Post for
creating this valuable awareness

Violence and humiliation of women is "just entertainment"?  I don't think so.  It's just hard for many of us to understand why so many good Republicans would sell their soul to support someone who represents this kind of trash.  Job creation?  It's a disgrace.

Perhaps there are a few of you who were hoodwinked into believing in Linda for some other reason - money, organization, peer pressure or what-have-you.  Now that you know the truth, are there a few of you willing to stand up - if only for your own reputations - and side with a candidate who isn't as repulsive as Linda McMahon?

Please, let's not ruin the CTGOP Brand further by merging it with the WWE Brand.  Please, Connecticut Republicans - let's not make the same mistake twice.

The King Absolves Editor Ray Hackett

Just who was that masked journalist?
Article Update: The King has received the word and honor of  Norwich Bulletin Editor Ray Hackett that he was not aware of The King's View, or has ever read this blog until this morning.  Regarding similiarties between our two articles - evidently, in this case, great minds think alike.  The King's men will be keeping a close eye on Ray Hackett going forward due to general mistrust of the paid media.

Furthermore, additional information has been learned about the Daria Novak plagiarism issue which has given The King pause.  We will research the matter fully before before updating this piece of the article.  To be determined at a later date.

Original Article: (SNIPS indicate removal of paragraphs no longer applicable):

You might be surprised to read that unlike some of my good friends, I do not stay tuned to the political world 24/7.  Fact is, most of my time is either spent working, slaving on the castle grounds, or playing servant to those around me (although I might get a stern look from some on that final point).

By yesterday afternoon, I had no fewer than nine emails directing me to a column by Ray Hackett, a big-time editor of the Norwich Bulletin.  When I glanced at the title: "On Politics: Delegates still 'for sale' after rule rejection." I didn't think much of it except that I was happy that the story of Linda McMahon's disgraceful antics and the corruption within the CTGOP was being published by yet another regional Connecticut newspaper.  It's interesting how slow the Connecticut media is, as its taken about a week since my article, CTGOP Referendum on Integrity Fails, Linda McMahon Resumes Convention Buy, opened a few eyes within the social-media blogosphere when it was published on Friday, March 16 (and my follow up on March 23, 2012).

I was grocery shopping at Whole Foods yesterday, when my phone rang.  "Hey King, this guy Ray Hackett took your article and splashed in a few extra facts and published it as his own without giving you credit. And Rick Green tweeted it and he didn't give you credit either."

I laughed. And dismissed the conversation as someone just trying to bust my horns.

Then he said, "No really, go home and print down both articles and put them side by side and look for yourself."  He then read a few paragraphs, and indeed I was taken aback.

So I went home, checked twitter, and read, and reread both articles, and I have to agree that the similarities between my piece and Hackett's are striking

Obviously, the elevation of the CTGOP Corruption story had much to do with Niel Vidgor's article which made a huge splash on Friday and caught the attention of voters outside of the Connecticut political establishment.  You can't question the reach of ctpoliticalreport's impact as an online hub for Connecticut news.  And, as well read as The King's View is, I'm happy that its readership is limited to only those who are political junkies, and know where to look for it.  I'm also happy that this is an unpaid gig because it alleviates the pressure of being obligated to any candidate or political alliance  - one of the the main reasons the CTGOP is in this mess in the first place. (wink, wink).

-SNIP-

It's funny because on Sunday morning, I tweeted high praise of both Rick Green and Ray Hackett for their insightful comments about the Shays-McMahon race.    Rick Green didn't retweet my initial column, but Daniella Altimari did when it first came out.  I should carefully point out that Ms. Altimari's tweet does not signify agreement with my column, as she always retweets opinions of conflicting viewpoints.

-SNIP-

I probably would not have cared about this had I not been egged on by a few of my friends who've been adamant that I set the record straight.  But they also brought to my attention that there is one additional element of this story that needs to be discussed.  Ray Hackett went out of his way to pick on CT02 Congressional Candidate Daria Novak in his piece: Novak Banned on Blogging because she didn't footnote or properly cite a few sources on her blog (oh please, the travesty!).

If you want to hear Daria's show,
you'll need a special receiver
And I have to say, that Daria Novak is a nice lady, and she's extremely passionate about her beliefs, but the poor lady is dangling by a thread in a race that has her challenger Chris Coutu beating her by a wide margin - and the guy isn't even in Connecticut to campaign.  -SNIP-  Leave the poor woman alone.  Let her blog and talk into her Fisher-Price Microphone.  In a month or so, it will all be over.  Let her have her moment in the sun, and just get off her back. For God-sakes, please!

Comments on the Linda McMahon Convention Buying article by NewsTimes

"Down 10 points to Susan Bysiewicz?
And destroyed in the Press because I'm buying Delegates?
Where's my Daniel Powter CD?... I had a bad day..."

Nine days ago, Linda McMahon and her campaign henchmen were smugly celebrating their well-orchestrated victory over advocates of the Convention Ethics Resolutions at the March 13th State Central Meeting.  Reports to The King were that McMahon campaign workers and surrogates were so insufferably pleased with themselves that they went out to a bar for drinks to celebrate; loudly mocking everyone who spoke in favor of CTGOP Convention Ethics and Transparency.  It's true, McMahon, with a wink and a nod from Chairman Labriola, won the day as The King reported last week.

It's a funny thing about politics though.  Some campaign strategies (like McMahon's assault on the Ethic Resolutions) might on the surface appear to be a great victory, but in reality has caused McMahon enormous collateral damage to her reputation as a candidate, and hindered her overall campaign strategy; clearly, not making it worth the effort.

It's clear to nearly everyone in the business that one of the things the McMahon campaign does best is ... miscalculate (underestimating their foes might be a close second).  Everything McMahon has done in 2010 or in this year's rebooted image of herself has been both a tactical and strategic failure. Everything from small-time Living Room visits to Delegate Buying has had the reverse, detrimental, impact intended - particularly if you consider the value for dollar spent. Linda's husband, Vince, was smart to insist on a spending cap for this year's one-way trip to nowhere.  Note to Linda: Grassroots campaigning, door to door doesn't work for multi-millionaires.  Tom Scott's advice was wrong.

Just like the strategies above, this miscalculation is no different.  The McMahon people flanked by CTGOP insiders foolishly thought that once the troublemakers were beat back through personal malicious threats and attacks, and the Resolutions shot down by their paid surrogates that this would be the last of it, and the controversy would simply dissipate into thin air. Further, they thought The Press wouldn't take any interest in internal Party dispute over Convention Rules and Transparency, or the crazed connection between GOP Party Leaders, payoffs, and candidates.  Again, they were wrong.

While The Hartford Courant failed it's readership to be the Newspaper of Record and print the story that they were intimately familiar with, it occurred to CTGOP Party Reformists that there were other news outlets to choose from that had both the bandwidth and courage to report such a big story.  And if you can't see the relevance of delegate buys, intimidation, and corruption in Republican State Politics, and its effect on a U.S. Senate Race, then I can't help you.  I can't help The Hartford Courant's Editorial Board which seemingly values the promise of candidate print ads over delivering news to its customers.  And you wonder why Newspaper readership is down?

If you haven't seen it by now, NewsTimes columnist Neil Vigdor has done a great job capturing the main points of the story, fairly presented from all points of view.  His piece entitled, "CT GOP scuttles new disclosure rules for delegates" captures the essence of the matter - corruption, impropriety,  and the CTGOPs stubborn unwillingness to deal with it's problems.  Since Mr. Vigdor has limited space - unlike The King, I thought I would provide a bit more color to the story so that everyone can have a complete picture.  So you might want to grab a Snickers Bar to get you through the next several hours of reading - just kidding.

In the article, Chris Shays was quoted as saying, "McMahon is trying to buy votes and she's one of the reasons I got into this race." "Last election, I thought, what is my party thinking? She literally bought the convention. And she lost miserably in the general election and brought all the statewide candidates down with her, and she's back at it."
No one will wonder," Shays continued. "I'm not going to be silent about this stuff. The Republican Party I know and have always believed in cares about morals and ethics.
"I want the party that cares about morals and ethics."

Well, Bravo Mr. Shays.  It has been a very, very long time since we've heard a Connecticut Republican Party Candidate or Connecticut Republican Politician stand-up and say something so accurate, articulate, and forthright about the state of things in our Party.  When The King's View went online in 1999 (starting as a column), it was for the purpose of advocating for Republican positions and candidates as a lowly conservative voice in the vast forest of Democratic giants.  But after a while, after witnessing a never-ending strategy of self-sabotage ,and continuous defeat due in part to a wave of crooked Party insiders trying to make a buck for themselves, it became abundantly clear that until the CTGOP could clean up its own act, that winning - on any real scale -  was an impossible task. Thus, like Congressman Shays, we start apart from many of our friends lost in the corruption, who'd rather coddle each other's egos (and wallets) rather than elect ethical Republicans to office.

Many of my allies have taken issue with me over my support of Mr. Shays because a few of his positions are more progressive then they like.  So be it!  I remind them that I'm not looking for a carbon copy candidate who can't think for himself, and takes orders from Washington Party hacks spewing the same old classic lines from the 80s Reagan's Doctrine.  Many people seem to have forgotten that while some principles do in fact remain the same (such as those expoused by Edmund Burke, and Adam Smith), the Earth spins on its axis 24/7 and thus positions, policies, and challenges are constantly changing to reflect a new reality.  Of all the candidates in this race, Mr. Shays has the intelligence to recognize the difference between ideology and pragmatism.

Ethics is a key component to Mr. Shays' character which is why he can stand tall when discussing the issue of CTGOP Corruption, and pay-offs.  With Mr. Shays, I also needn't worry about opposing interests drudging up decades and decades of endless scandals about steroids, drugs, deaths and injuries in the workplace, sexual harassment charges, exporting violence to children, and 101 other real distractions from my Republican Candidate's position platform.  Mr. Shays is his own man, who stands alone and can handle the heat of policy differences.   On the other hand, Ms. McMahon won't even comment on the matter of her Convention Buying or RTC Donations simply because she can't

In fact, how many times has the Connecticut Media seen the same thing over and over when they ask the McMahon Camp for a comment?  Do they get a real live person who interacts with them on a professional level?  No. Instead they get hired-robot Erin Issac who reads a carefully prepared statement off a 3x5 index card which never addresses the question at hand, and instead deflects reporters to a website outlining a so-called plan which in all likelihood was prepared by another set of hired political consultants, far and away from the candidate herself.  The campaign could save itself a bundle, and replace Issac with an answering machine: "Press one for Linda's Website, Press two to disconnect. Good-Bye."

The whole thing illustrates exactly what the public and press would be up against if God-forbid, Linda McMahon ever became U.S. Senator.  Cold, bland, and machine-like. It would easier to be granted entry to the James Forrestal Nuclear Weapons Headquarters than it would to ever meet with Senator Linda McMahon.  Well, at least we won't see her making fun of President Obama using a teleprompter any time soon.   For someone who constantly makes fun of career politicians, Linda McMahon certainly has the act down pat

For the record, Mr. Shays is just the opposite. He looks you straight in the eye, and answers your question directly.  And he doesn't answer it the way you want to hear it answered, he gives you his honest position on the matter whether you agree with him or not.  It's called, thinking on your feet, and out the box, and it doesn't require carefully prepared scripts, or handlers whispering advice in his ear.  And its nice to have a conversation with someone like Mr. Shays who actually knows what he's talking about.  Imagine if Connecticut had a Senator like that?

ANALYSIS OF CHAIRMAN LABRIOLA'S COMMENTS

I try awfully hard to give Chairman Jerry Labriola, Jr. the benefit of the doubt.  I get it that he's been handed a raided bank account, a poor hand to play, and has to deal with a State Central Committee that more closely resembles Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (except in this case there are a hellava lot more than 40 thieves for him to contend with) - than people looking to pull up their sleeves and give him a hand. In politics, nothing moves unless its pushed.  At CT Republican State Central nothing moves unless it's lit on fire or tied to cash payout.

It's true that Jerry allowed the Sub-Committee to form and take up the issue of correcting the obvious improprieties. He also selected a Sub-Committee of individuals who believed that changes were necessary (when he could have selected a group to drive it into the ground).  Former Chairman Chris Healy would have squashed any attempt to bring the Resolutions forward before they were even inked to paper.  So for that we should be somewhat grateful.  However, real leadership isn't sitting in a tower of neutrality and acting like a disinterested party while events unfold around you.  And it isn't being all things to all people in hopes of currying favor to segments of the crowd, or delegating away your authority to act.  Leadership is having the courage to stand out front, take the issue by the horns, and carry the mantle forward when called upon to do so.

When I read Jerry Labriola's quotes in the article, I was a little more than disappointed.  "The members have spoken and we will now turn to the important matters at hand, like raising money and recruiting great candidates."  As if this wasn't important. And as if suddenly everything is hunky-dory and we can just go back to doing whatever the hell we were doing before  - like taking payments for votes, allowing people to manipulate the process, and losing elections in grand fashion because of it.  And of course there is the money.  It's always about the money, never policy, integrity, or doing the right thing.  Nope.  Raising money.  I was truly pissed after reading our Chairman's comments in the article.  Well good luck raising money after May.  I'm sure people are always willing to drop a few grand on a hopeless cause.

Maybe, we should have
gone with this Jerry
instead. Although there
are a lot of similarities

If that quote didn't turn me red, the next line surely did:  Labriola said, "The delegates to our conventions must now put aside distractions and use their best judgment to nominate Republicans with the greatest chance of electability this fall." Translation: Bringing integrity to the process is just a distraction. Everyone must now suck it up and play their role, and take it (insert expletive phrase of your choice) like man.  Labriola must have been watching The Wizard of Oz when speaking to Mr. Vigdor, "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain."  Jerry, for Godsakes, is that the best you have to offer while the McMahon Camp buys delegates and steals the Convention?  You want everyone else to simply forget about it?

At the least, Chairman Labriola should have lamented the fact that the Rules didn't pass.  Such an expression would have at least secured his credibility with his supporters.

This Convention is YOUR legacy.  So what if the other four Candidates - Shays, Westby, Dumaj, and Hill - all who believed that you would really do something to end corruption -  decided to skip the rigged State Convention, and simply headed out to collect signatures.  Why should they just play their scripted parts in Linda's Pep Rally Show, and allow you, and Linda's paid delegates to humiliate them on the Convention Floor? Why should they wait until May 18th to watch the shananigans unfold when they can skip it and legally start collecting signatures on May 1.

Look, I do like Jerry on the whole (I don't care if the feeling is mutual or not).  But this wasn't his best performance as chief of the CTGOP.  And I guarantee that he will likely always remember the 42-10 vote forever because it could wind up plaguing him all the way to November 6th if the Quinnipiac Poll Numbers continue to show true.  To take a quote from those on the other side of the fence, Silence is Acceptance.  The failure to stand up, lead and act - spoke volumes.  Sometimes you have to stick your neck out and fight.  Now you can't even say, "I tried."  No!  You didn't sweep it under the rug on March 13, but you're trying to do that now.  And this is all very sad.  The Rules Committee is your last opportunity to summon the courage to stand for truth and integrity.

I know I seem to come off rather harsh on the Chairman. Trust me, we understand that Jerry does a lot of good for the Party.  We know he works his tail off to raise funds and support candidates at every level, and has sacrificed significant personal time away from his family.  But this episode was particularly disappointing and we are all left with the fallout.  He learned the hard way just how polluted his SSC truly is, he couldn't have predicted the 42-10 slaughter.  He will never be able to look at State Central the same way again.

I was also slightly disappointed in Mike Vitali who I've praised repeatedly for doing a remarkable job as Chairman of the Sub-Committee.  But Vitali's use of the word "perceived" when describing the problem of lack of integrity seemed to be a bit disingenuous.  Either there is a problem or their isn't one.  Either the 2010 Convention was a last minute fire-sale on delegate votes or it wasn't.  Well, it was. I saw if first hand. Is State Central in the business of setting up a Sub-Committee to address "perceived problems" or real ones?  Whether intended or not, people now think you where placed in this role to make it look like the Party gave it a good old college try, followed by a carefully scripted outcome.  And you wonder why there is so much distrust between the GOP Party Faithful and its so-called Representatives.  Perceived, my arse.  What are we to perceive now?  Mr. Vitali, you had the moral high ground, why surrender it?

Again, we need to give credit where it's due - the folks on the Sub-Committee worked their hearts out to make a positive difference. I want to be clear that these people deserve gold stars for their effort.  Republican voters should be happy that there are at least a few people who are willing to do the right thing on their behalf.

KIE WESTBY OMITTED

One point that was missed in Mr. Vigdor's story (and also missed by The King in my previous piece) was that U.S. Senate Candidate Kie Westby, who is also a State Central Member, cast a vote in favor of The Resolutions on March 13. We appreciate Mr. Westby's courageous act to stand with the Reformers to improve our Party's reputation by doing more than giving lip-service to the notion.

BACK TO THE ARTICLE; SOME ADDITIONAL POINTS

In typical fashion, the McMahon Campaign manufactured at least one major lie worth repeating to highlight the desperate state of their retreat.  According to the article, McMahon's Camp (unidentified) claimed that some Republicans who are now delegates sought employment with the McMahon Campaign are now on the payroll of Chris Shays.  The King calls your bluff. We would love to see a list of those names, and moreover - we want to know if McMahon's campaign will follow the act of transparency set by Chris Shays by requiring paid employees, delegates, and vendors to wear identification badges as the Convention Sub-Committee originally sought?  And don't forget to include all of the names of relatives of State Central members also on your payroll.

<----------------------->

What also didn't figure into the article is that on one hand Linda's campaign said that it was up to State Central Members to formulate its own rules and you weren't interested in interfering in that discussion, yet all the while - Tom Scott was calling and badgering everyone including CTGOP brass to put a stop to The Resolution vote.  The level of dishonesty coming out of the McMahon Campaign is at an all time high.  But perhaps this week's Quinnipiac Poll which showed Linda McMahon losing to Susan Bysiewicz by 10 points might have made them more cranky than usual.
Tom "Yosemite" Scott became down-right
ornery over the notion of having to wear badges

<----------------------->

One the best lines in the articles comes from Joe Visconti who said, "Integrity was Sent to the Gallows."  Nothing could be truer than that.  What's important to realize is that Reformers like Visconti aren't responsible for this inter-party crisis, quite the contrary - people like Joe are working hard to avoid another election cycle of disaster.   This is shaping up to be 2010 all over again, and if we aren't careful, the results could be much worse than last time because the impact of McMahon's Dark Cloud could resonate all the way down to Republican State Races as well.   Democrats who I know are counting on just that.  They see a perfect storm in the making with McMahon atop of the ticket.  And with Good Ole Tom Foley waiting in the wings, Democrats couldn't ask for more.

<----------------------->

Reading the comments by Edward Dadakis, a State Central Member from Greenwich, was a good reminder of the kind of blinders that State Central Member wear during meetings.  I would love to hear how wearing a badge to signify your paid allegiance to a campaign, or having a campaign supply a list of delegates and vendors on their payroll is so unwieldy and difficult to enforce.  You got to be kidding, right?  Are we so unscrupulous and unwieldy that our own people won't follow the rules?  They seemed to be pretty good at throwing Rob Simmons staff members off the Convention Floor in 2010, or didn't you recollect that, Ed?

While Ed tunes up his memory on that point let's debunk another misconception of his.  If Dadakis really sees wearing a badge identifying that he's a paid delegate as a "scarlet letter" than that's unique problem.  Most of the people you talk with agree that its more absurd to not have paid delegate wear identification on the floor of the Convention, as you would if you were a Lobbyist wandering the State Capitol.  So, what's really a bigger issue?  Wearing a so-called scarlet letter, or being dishonest about your paid association to a candidate?  As for payoffs and scandals - oh, its fine by Dadakis - hell, let boys be boys - everyone wheels and deals [and lies and cheats] - it's just the way it is.  Well, some of us appeal to a higher standard.

<----------------------->

Senate Candidate Brian K. Hill, who this author is still suspect of, had the perfect point about the Resolutions: "If you don't have anything to hide, there's nothing wrong with transparency."  Spot on.  And that's the question - how do you get around the transparency, and the third party transaction from guys like Pat Sullivan who serve as Linda McMahon's ATM service?

<----------------------->

The biggest surprise in the article came from Justin Bernier, who as most people are aware, worked for Linda McMahon in 2010 after his unsuccessful Congressional Bid.  Quoting Hartford Legend Mark Twain, Bernier said, "Mark Twain said that it's impossible to convince a man of something if his paycheck depends on him believing the opposite,"  "Every Republican in Connecticut has a right to know which convention delegates are getting paychecks from which candidates. We need to be the party of truth and transparency -- not the party of payoffs."

We need to be the Party of Truth and Transparency - not the party of payoffs.

Did you read that Chairman Labriola? Justin Bernier may not be The King's favorite subject these days, but he certainly has promise.  Justin's quote for some reason reminds me of Benjamin Franklin's quote: "When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."  Did Mr. Franklin ever imagine that the darkness of political corruption would seep down as low as Connecticut's Republican State Central?  Perhaps not, but the same principle applies.

LET'S NOT FORGET LISA WILSON-FOLEY

Sadly absent from Mr. Vigdor's article were comments about Lisa Wilson-Foley (phony) participation in the Pay-to-Play scandal.  Foley is equally as guilty as Linda McMahon in her quest to influence CT-05 delegate votes via RTC donations and other unmentioned rewards.  It's good that Kevin Rennie pointed out in his column that the majority of Foley's Healthcare business is subsidized by the Federal Government.  She skims from the Fed and in turn uses that money to pay RTCs for delegate votes in order to seek election.  Isn't Lisa's America a wonderful place or what?

As for Lou DeLuca and his $140,000 dollars worth of T-Shirt sales, well all I can say that its no wonder why he's listed on Linda McMahon's website as having endorsed her.  DeLuca's comment that his support for McMahon predated the T-Shirt deal - yeah, well its funny how that all worked out just right for ya' Lou, isn't it?  I mean for God-sakes, you've been caught red-handed with your hand in the cookie jar, and crumbs down the front of your (t)shirt. At least be a man about it and tell the truth.  Thank God for people like Sean Murphy who are at least willing to publicly stand up and challenge blatant corruption.

Taking a page from Mr. Dadakis above "every body's doing it", DeLuca tries to detract from his guilt by implying that Mr. Murphy has probably somehow and at sometime been bought by others  - a weak argument at best.  Anyone who knows Mr. Murphy knows that he might be as outspoken as The King, but would never stoop to the level of the DeLuca's of the world - who value personal profit over principle every time.  Oh, and DeLuca has appointed himself a delegate to the Convention, he'll be the one pushing a hotdog stand up and down the asiles selling t-shirts at $20 bucks a pop.

CONCLUSION

This week was a bad week for Linda McMahon and friends.  And perhaps an even worse week for the CT GOP as the headlines of corruption and delegate buying splashed across the front page of ctcapitolreport in 24 font for nearly 14 hours straight.  The image of our State Chairman with a cigar sticking out of his mouth and a brandy in his hand added a hint of arrogance to an already damaging story.

Democrats saw from the Quinnipiac Poll results, that our Republican Leaderships anointed candidate Linda McMahon trailed 15 points behind their likely candidate - Chris Murphy, and 10 points behind their lady-in-waiting Susan Bysiewicz, all the while and without having to lift a finger, Republican leaders were putting the screws to the GOPs only competitive option (Chris Shays) of winning the seat.  If someone really wanted to go hog wild, they could also make the case that Linda McMahon is a Democratic Operative, working behind the scenes to ensure an easy win for Democrats in November.

But seriously - CTGOP RTCs and State Central Members are doing a huge injustice to the Republican Party.  On Election Day, Blue Connecticut will likely support President Obama by a fair margin, and if voters look at the next line and see Linda McMahon, they will quickly move to vote for Chris Murphy.  At least with Chris Shays on the line, there would be a moment of pause to reflect on the option, and many Independent voters, and some Democrats would certainly give Mr. Shays a chance.  With McMahon on the line, the rest of the Republican ticket will suffer immeasurably in a year where a candidate like Shays could lift the entire Republican ticket statewide.  Get this through heads - Linda McMahon can't win.

This weekend, we will see Chris Shays on Face the State with Dennis House.  It's a shame that all of this didn't come out before the Face The State taping which would have allowed for a few extra hours for the campaigns to absorb it all - because it would have made for some fantastic television to watch on Sunday morning. Athough I have to say that unlike Mr. Shays, The King wouldn't bet on him winning a rigged State Convention, but his numbers in the polls (versus Linda's) and sudden momentum certainly gives him the edge for a big-time upset win during the Primary.   I fully expect the McMahon campaign will most certainly need to stoop to the level that they did in 2010 when they unfairly Pearl Harbored Rob Simmons on his cloture votes on Cap and Trade and other random votes - there is a lot of concocted conclusions that the McMahon camp will try to manufacture from Mr. Shay's 20 years of public service.  The difference is (and no offense to Mr. Simmons) they'll be in a whole knew ballgame with Mr. Shays.

I personally can't wait to watch Linda McMahon gasping for air when she debates Mr. Shays on the issues given his depth of experience.  If she got beat around by Mr. Richard Blumenthal, who appeared to almost feel sorry for her, just wait until she watches a real statesman like Chris Shays take her apart.  It's going to be classic genius versus idiot match- up.   There's always hope that Linda could do the right thing and quit.  But with what she's invested so far, I just can't see that happening.

Oh, and one final note.  Rumors abound that Linda McMahon is forming a Superpac which is being bundled by some of her old Greenwich buddies - including one who thinks he's going to be our future Governor.  The big thing about the Superpac's power is its ability to hide its donors out of plain sight for a long period of time - permitting them to escape public scrutiny - while it fires its negative campaign attack ads at Chris Shays for a period of several months. Further rumors are that this weapon will be unleashed immediately after the State Convention allowing Linda to allocate her staff and campaign resources toward other, more pleasant campaign apperances.  If Linda McMahon is forming a Superpac, perhaps Chris Shays should form one to - just to keep things semi-equal, or at least interesting.

Linda is constructing a SuperPac
which will be ready just in time for June 1

Have a great weekend!

TRIFECTA: Three Degenerate Bills Pass Committee

The Connecticut LOB is located in
an alternate universe where right is
wrong and wrong is right
Wednesday was a gloomy day for Republicans in Connecticut. And that's putting it mildly.

First, the Judiciary Committee passed H.B. 5389 AN ACT CONCERNING THE PALLIATIVE USE OF MARIJUANA, which The King warned everyone about last month. The Bill easily passed Judiciary by a margin of 35-8 (vote tally here). The real crying shame about the passage of this bill, is that only seven Republicans voted against the measure which clearly shows that Connecticut Republicans continue to suffer from an identity crisis inconsistent with the National Republican Party and its membership.

For the record, the following Republicans voted in favor of passing out marijuana to anyone who can find a burned out, 60s-raised, Tye-died physician willing to produce a doctor's note:

Andrew Roraback, S30
Themis Klarides, T. 114 (CTGOP Party Vice-Chair)
David Labriola, 131
John Kissel, S07
John Hetherington, 125
Christie Carpino, 032 (Sponsor)
Debra Lee Hovey, 112
T.R. Rowe, 123
Robert Sampson, 080

If you see any of the fools above whining about drug problems in schools, drug-related violence, or looking with a blank stare as they try to fathom the ever-increasing issue of substance abuse - then you can remind them about their foolish vote to make marijuana legally more available to Connecticut households. If they try to tell you that there is no connection between their vote, and their contribution to expanding the drug problem in Connecticut, you can tell them to go smoke another doobie, and face the fact that they are compounding the problem, and what's worse - they are sending the wrong message to the youth of Connecticut which is Smoking Pot is OK if you really, really want to. Nice! By the way, the whole medical component of the Marijuana argument is ridiculous cover - and could only have merit back in the 70s when the strength of today's pain medications were a fraction of what's on the market now; plus they're readily available at any CVS in the State providing you have a script.

The eight brave, dissenting voices are:

Paul Doyle, S09 (Democrat)
Al Aldinolfi, 103
Michael McLachlan, S24
Arthur O'Neill, 069
John Shaban, 135
Bill Simanski, 062
Richard Smith, 108
Jason Welch, S31

Note to Themis Klarides: You can forget your aspiriations for RNC Committee Person because the Republican National Committee doesn't do marijuana!

DEATH PENALTY REPEAL

By far the worst vote today came regarding Connecticut Democrats never-ending quest to repeal the Death Penalty under the guise of S.B. 280 AN ACT REVISING THE PENALTY FOR CAPITAL FELONIES. Oddly enough, the passage of the Bill out of the Judiciary Committee comes at a time when a
Quinnipiac Poll shows that Connecticut Residents support the Death Penalty by a wide-margin of 67 in favor and only 28 against. The poll actually indicates a new high for Death Penalty support in Connecticut which means that there wasn't a cooling off period as Connecticut Democrats had hoped for post-Komisarjevksy-Hayes verdicts. If anything, the public is more determined then ever to see these two meet their maker for the heinous crimes they committed on the Petit family.

Democrats tend to only care about polling data that favors their barbaric causes, so you can imagine how quickly today's poll was disregarded by liberals sitting on the Committee. The
vote tally was a sobering 24 in favor of repeal to 17 against repeal. Even Andrew Roraback, who was clobbered in this blog and has since taken a weekly beating at the hands of his chief rival CT05 Congressional wanna-be Lisa Wilson-Phony (Foley) (a.k.a scarecrow lady), voted against repeal.

I'm not sure whether or not Roraback's early release demands were met, or not but regardless, he voted with his Republican colleagues on what was basically a party-line vote. If he votes the same way when it goes for up a general vote in both chambers then that will effectively end his controversy over the Death Penalty, and close the issue - for it's not what you did last year, it's what you did yesterday.

The concern that has pro-law enforcement/ pro-justice system lawyers and others talking is that if this bill were to be voted on in the General Assembly and passed, then the chances that either sick bastards Joshua Komisarjevsky or Steven Hayes would face the Death Penalty is slim to none. Despite rhetoric by Governor Dannel Malloy and his liberal buddies that, if passed, this Bill wouldn't apply to the Petit murderer's grandfathered sentencing - every activist judge and liberal trial lawyer will be looking for an opportunity to challenge on behalf of Death Row inmates using an
Equal Protection Law argument (5th Amendment "due process") to find a way to get Hayes, Komisarjevsky, and anyone else off death row.

Make no mistake, Dannel Malloy said he'd sign a bill to repeal of the death penalty if it came to his desk. Don't think for a minute that the Governor's Office isn't knee deep involved in the whole orchestration of the Democrats legislative agenda. The deal to advance this bill right now and get it passed is no coincidence - with two years left in his term, Governor Malloy is looking to make short work of this item, and praying that the people of Connecticut forget the whole thing by the time 2014 rolls around. Sadly, if the income tax battle taught us anything, it's that the public has a short memory, and moreover tends to become more accepting of bad ideas over time.

Today's real headline should have read: "Connecticut
Democrats take first step to overturn Hayes-Komisarjevsky
sentencing." because that's been their plan all-along.

SAME DAY VOTER REGISTRATION

I also warned you about H.B. 5024 AN ACT CONCERNING VOTING RIGHTS which also passed it's committee 11-4 on a Party Line vote. Without going into too much detail, the level of fraud that municipalities can expect will be unprecedented - mostly favoring Democrat Candidates (which to any genius reading might explain why Dems are head-over-heels in love with the idea, and Republicans are cringing at the very thought - might be something do with how well Democrats have perfected voter fraud over the years, ex. Acorn, or Chicago Style Politics, not sure). And if that wasn't bad enough, the entire cost of administration and hardware for checking for duplicate voter registrations via online computer terminals, and the staff to support this fraudulent bill will be handed down to all 169 towns - which, as we all know, can barely balance their budgets as it is.

So there you have it. Connecticut's Grand Old Party, took a grand old beating today. If you are disgusted, you should be. And I hate to tell you this, but if you look at the docket, you'll find all kinds of expensive and perverse pieces of legislation that will likely be looked at and passed by Connecticut's one party authoritarian structure. It's going to get worse before it gets better, that's if - there's any chance of it ever getting better at all.

Lastly, has anyone seen Democrat State Representative and U.S. Senate hopeful William Tong?  He failed to show up to cast a vote at either the Death Penalty, or the Pro-Marijuana hearings - not that he would have been on the side of the righteous.  Rumor is that Tong was last seen on Dennis House's Face the State show.  If anyone sees Mr. Tong wandering aimlessly in Hartford Keeney Park feeding pigeons, contact Speaker Chris Donovan.

All Points Bulletin: "Dawg Gone, Tong Gone!"
