Catapulting Andrew Roraback to Victory

There are not many bright spots for the beleaguered Connecticut Republican Party this election cycle, but alas - there is at least one race where Republicans will likely make a gain.  The 5th Congressional District - perhaps where the last visible bastion of Connecticut Yankee Republicanism can be found - is on track to elect State Senator Andrew Roraback to the U.S. Congress on Tuesday.  And all things being equal, this will be a great outcome for what has been a rough year for the State GOP.

While Andrew isn't exactly the choice of the social conservative wing of the CTGOP, he is a decent family man with a strong record of representing his constituents with honor and decency.  A case in point is that despite his own personal convictions on the issue, he switched positions to cast a vote against Repeal of the Death Penalty which won him points with those of us sympathetic to the Petit Family, and all victims of homicide crime. Even if his vote was somewhat political, as claimed by his rival Lisa Wilson-Foley, he cast the right vote for the right reasons, and on behalf of is entire constituency. (Note that his opponent Elizabeth Esty, who has a long record of being soft on crime, voted to coddle murderers and criminals and relieve them from facing absolute justice).  With Andrew, you can say that it's one thing to say he stands for certain principles, but its quite another to be able to deep dive into his extensive record and see that he's never wavered during his multi-year term.

From a fiscal standpoint, Roraback has been responsible with taxpayers money during his twelve year tenure, and being raised on wishy-washy Episcopalianism, one would expect him to continue to strike a balance between social responsibility and fiscal restraint.  This is certainly a stark contrast to his opponent Elizabeth Esty who is publicly on record saying that she is willing to send the elderly and those on hardship who can't afford tax increases packing beyond the Cheshire Town Line.  It's hard to find a candidate with less compassion for people than Elizabeth Esty.  And if you've ever had a chance to talk with her in person, like I have, you know that she comes across too direct, and very mean.

It's sort of remarkable if you think about it.  Normally, Republicans get a bad rap for being so tight with the penny that Democrats almost always twist our candidates' records so to play the class warfare card to their advantage during every race, but with Esty's voting record of cutting the elderly off at the knees at every turn during her two year stint in Hartford, she's removed any credibility she has on social welfare.  Democrats are probably furious about not having a stronger candidate like Chris Donovan on the ballot, but scandals can seem to egulf both parties from time to time.

The Roraback folks are looking for some help in the final days of the campaign to ensure victory.  If you haven't already volunteered your time, this is a great opportunity to become part of the winning team.  The Campaign is in need of people to make calls from their phone bank, go door-to-door to conduct literature drops and help get out the vote, and work the polls on Election Day.   If you'd like to help, please call the Roraback Campaign at 860-626-7244.  And tell them The King sent you. Final Note

Lastly, with a concerted effort with all hands on deck, Andrew should sail comfortably to a solid win on Tuesday. However, there is one real note of concern that's generating plenty of angst amongst Roraback Campaign staffers.  Having watched the Republican base backlash from Linda McMahon's tie-in political ad supporting Barack Obama, there is another ad being broadcast on television by American Unity Pac that is causing alarm.

There is real reason for concern.  At one point, Linda McMahon boasted more than a 10-point lead over Chris Murphy in CT-5.  After her pro-Obama commercial aired, polls showed her trailing by 6-points in the District.  The last thing Andrew Roraback needs is for Linda McMahon to anchor herself to his surge and sink his ship before he crosses the finish line.  The concern is so real that one Roraback person told The King, "Every time that commercial airs, Andrew runs to the bathroom and vomits ... if we lose this thing [race] by a few points, it will attributed to this stupid commercial ... she'll climb over, on-top of everyone to get her face out there.  And everyone is suffering because of it."

We pray that this doesn't turn out to be the case.  Andrew should look in his rear view mirror like Jeff Goldblum did in Jurassic Park and run like hell to avoid Linda "T-Rex" McMahon from taking a bite out of his forward momentum.

Here's an opportunity for you to meet one of the only serious Republican candidates currently running for Congress in the Nutmeg State, and that's none other than - Mike Clark. While many candidates have drawn up fictional accounts of their experience, or traveled around the state peddling half truths to one special interest group after another - you'll instead find that Mr. Clark is the real deal: consistent, honest, respected, and legitimate.

No ambiguous language that leaves you guessing where he stands, no bait and switch shenanigans, instead - just a refreshing, direct, no-nonsense outline of where Mr. Clark stands on the issues. Unlike his competition, Mr. Clark doesn't come from the imaginary world of politics where votes are bought, and anything flies; no, he comes with a legitimate background - working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New York City and elsewhere.

After working in NYC, he was transferred to Connecticut where he led investigations against municipal and statewide corruption. His work was so well-respected that he was awarded special recognition by the U.S. Attorney's Office in 2005 for his service to the residents of Connecticut.

Further, he now works in the private sector for Otis Internal Security Department, and he also served as Chairman for the Farmington Republican Town Council where he helped to maintain the third lowest mil rate in the region. Oh yeah, it's true that Mr. Clark didn't pawn away someone else's fortune to become a millionaire, and he hasn't wandered from campaign to campaign playing the favor-game - nope, he's earned his money the hard way - by actually working for it.

Even though this sounds like an endorsement, it's not. But you have to be excited about having at least one candidate in the Fifth Congressional District who is worth cheering for. The rest of the pack simply won't cut it.  If this campaign were were only about raising money as some would have you believe, than we wouldn't have to worry about issues to begin with, would we?  Well, the record shows that the public cares about principled positions after-all, and whether or not someone can blow $50 million dollars out of their own pockets, doesn't seem to matter one iota to the voting public.  The public wants somone they can actually believe in for a change.

Whether you're a Republican, a Conservative, a Tea Party Patriot, or an Independent Voter with a lot of questions - head down and meet with Mike Clark. You'll be glad you did!  And don't pass up the chance to chat with Chairman Jerry Labriola, Jr. too.  You can tell him it's nice to have a Chairman who puts the public ahead of his own personal interest!  and someone who wants to see the CTGOP win again!

Andrew Roraback: Man of Shame

Although some say he may be the odds on favorite to steal the nomination at the Connecticut Republican State Convention because of long-time Connecticut political family ties, there are a couple things that voters in the 5th Congressional District should know about State Senator Andrew Roraback before they bow down to this Replican Republican - a few things that may turn you from Republican Red to Crimson Red with anger.

As most long-time readers know, The King has written extensively about the heinous Cheshire murders and my desired push for the execution of two of the most disgusting creatures to ever breathe Connecticut air - Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes.  For those who can't recall, both of these filthy SOBs, tortured or raped, and burned alive three innocent victims back in 2007; among them were a loving wife, and two beautiful children, all robbed of their futures by these sick, twisted monsters.  Over the last few years - with only a few liberal lunatics in dissent - the public has loyally supported the Petit-Hawke-Renn Family through thick and thin.  While we couldn't fully comprehend Dr. Petit's personal anguish, we shared his sorrow, and pain.  And we continue to share the sadness of his loss.

After two seemingly endless trials over the course of three years, and having shed many tears for the victims, separate juries finally convicted the assailants, and sentenced them both to death.  While liberal zealots cried revenge, honest people shouted justice!  Absolute Justice for the Petit women!

Yet in 2009, only two years after the gruesome Petit murders, State Senator Andrew Roraback broke ranks with the Public and The Republican Party and joined Democrats to support the Repeal of the Death Penalty.  Luckily, the measure failed at the Governor's Desk.  Roraback refers to his vote as a "matter of conscience."  Roraback's conscience apparently includes allowing rapist-murders to live out their lives in prison watching television, playing ping-pong, lifting weights, and eating junk food at constituent expense.  Roraback has pity for society's villains but not an ounce for murder victims, or their families.  What kind of man purports to be a Republican but would work night and day through his Judiciary Committee to undercut the very punishment sought by prosecutors, and supported by 87% of Connecticut residents from even being considered for murderers like Hayes and Komisarjevsky.  I'll tell you - an untrustworthy one!

And you have to find it a bit strange that both Senators Edith Prague and Andrew Roraback met privately with Dr. Petit prior to casting their votes.  After doing so, Democrat Edith was moved by Dr. Petit's story, and courageously switched her vote against repeal, while Andrew Roraback acted like he didn't give a damn about Dr. Petit or his story. Andrew Roraback is a Man of Shame! How a feminne guy like him gets re-elected each term to the State Senate by people in Litchfield County, I'll never know.

I'm sure Andy won himself a moment of admiration with his liberal friends that day, as he has on a few previous occasions - like when he supported gay marriage, and whenever he gets the opportunity to champion liberal causes - like Greenways and tax breaks for phony Green Energy schemes and such.  

Connecticut voters can do much better than to send a liberal like Andrew Roraback to Congress.  And besides, the last thing the Republican Party needs is another Olympia Snowe in their ranks holding the GOP hostage every time there's a close vote on an issue of importance.

If Roraback wants to support murderers, and pimp for gay activists, then let him do so in the Connecticut Legislature with his buddy Larry Cafero.  Let's leave the big Congressional job in Washington for someone who will go there, and act and vote like a real Republican, not some cheap, gutless imitation hellbent on supporting liberal causes, and crusading on behalf of murderers.

Just say "no" to Andrew Roraback - a liberal you can't trust.  But if you like Roraback, you might just as well cross party lines and vote for Chris Donovan - because there's not much difference between the two on issues that really matter to conservatives.
